Alpla
ALPLA (Austria) was founded in 1955. Today, 6500 employees work at 86 ALPLA factories
worldwide.
In Russia the Company started its business in 1997 under the name of OOO “ALPLA”.
At present the ALPLA’s customers in Russia are such well-known transnational companies
as Coca-Cola, Nestle, Danone, Unilever, Henkel, L’Oreal as well as a number of Russian
companies. The Company produces plastic packaging: preforms, flasks, vials, caps,
etc.
Thanks to constant care for production quality, use of the most modern production
methods and innovations, ALPLA won the leading positions in plastic packing industry.
Likewise, the Company set strict requirements for the implementation of the ERP-system
project. As the ERP-System platform the Microsoft Business Solutions-Navison software
was chosen.
Partner Power Russia acted as the partner in Microsoft Navison implementation work.
Situation:
The ALPLA business growth and the company’s high standards with regard to business
processes management called for the introduction of a unified control system at
the factory.
The formerly used system did not envisage planning of financial indices, e.g. payments
to suppliers. The Company’s constant growth also contributed to setting new requirements
for the system’s scalability and reliability.
The need for the new ERP-system was generated by a number of tasks in operative
and financial management, i.e.:
- creation of a common information space for a better and more efficient
management of the company’s spread-out structure;
- real-time data availability on stock inventory for sales and purchases
planning;
- reduction of labour costs on the generation of management reports
intended for the head-office;
- production scheduling for future orders;
- production reports generation;
- providing top-management with the information database for it’s
decision-making.
The main goal of the system implementation is to achieve complete automation in
book-keeping and management accounts.
Solution:
MBS Navison software was chosen as the information system since the proposed functionality
was the closest to match the OOO “ALPLA” requirements. The Microsoft Navison implementation
job was assigned to Partner Power Russia which offered the most comprehensive and
the task-adequate solutions. At the very outset of the project, the parties have
agreed the basic principles of its implementation, such as: active participation
of the ALPLA employees in the project realization, project management procedures,
project standards for all stages, and the number of supplementary developments and
modifications of the system.
The project was executed in 2 stages:
- 1. The operative circuit automation:
- stock inventory record-keeping
- purchases tracking
- sales tracking
- production scheduling
- 2. The financial circuit automation:
- sales and purchases order tracking
- raw material and production prime costs records
- fixed assets accounts
- indirect production and administration overheads accounting and distribution
- settings for mandatory accounting and in-house financial record-keeping
The project’s peculiarity is the development of the Russian accounts format with
detailed elaboration on the control account level aimed at generation of the corporate
accounts. All expenditures are grouped by the Company’s profit-centers. Indirect
(general production) expenses are allocated to the product kinds in proportion with
the quantified estimate of the direct production costs for the particular product
kinds.
Apart from the compliance with the plastic packing industry requirements, one of
the key advantages of the above solution is its scalability which would allow the
system’s hookup to the eventual Company’s branches without additional rework.
Result:
The works on the system analysis, design, development, testing and installation
were carried out in the period of June through December, 2003. The test and commercial
run of the system began on January 1, 2004.
The project outcome was comprehensive automation of the business tasks related to
the financial and material flows: stock inventory management, material supplies,
communicating with customers and suppliers, production record keeping, book-keeping
and corporate accounting.
The information reliability and timeliness enable constant improvement of the Company’s
business processes. The ALPLA top-management is now capable to make assessment of
the efficiency indices in real-time terms.
According to Ekaterina Tatarnikova, the OOO “ALPLA” Financial Director, the
« introduction of the Microsoft Navison software allowed
to speed-up availability and increase the reliability level of the data on the Company
activities, considerably reduce the duration of routine operations, consolidate
the financial and management data flows and ensure reliable data support for important
decision making ».
